Tameside General Hospital

Tameside and Glossop Acute Services NHS Trust serves a population of 250,000 who live within the Metropolitan Borough of Tameside in Greater Manchester, and the Glossop area of High Peak Borough in Derbyshire. The main hospital is Tameside General Hospital situated on the outskirts of Ashton-under-Lyne which has approximately 700 beds, both acute and community. The laboratory is housed in this hospital. A major PFI initiative is due to commence and it will include a new pathology building.

The Biochemistry Department has recently been equipped with the latest instrumentation and it employs 21 members of staff. The laboratory was inspected in June 2003 and has since gained full CPA accreditation.
